Ever wondered what it would be like if Disney moments were real? Well, here's a glimpse of it! Stuart Edge has done it again. This video may not have taken place on UVU Campus but it sure did work it nearby here. It's for sure a surprise that is very much needed, and it's super sweet!
Thank you Stuart Edge, Peter Hollins, BYU's Vocal Point, and Note Worthy!
Have you ever thought in song? If you have, you can totally relate to these guys. It's legit. Disney's so dang catchy!
And it just adds to the fact that perhaps it's really awkward when someone breaks into song and the other person doesn't... These kids, gotta give them props!
As you saw earlier, we were preparing for Philanthropy Day. This video is of volunteers who were willing to help think outside of the box to create more awareness. At 11:17 AM people froze on Philanthropy Day. The "freeze" part is when people stop whatever they are doing for a full 2 minutes. There was a huge contrast between those who are frozen and those walking to class. The frozen people also wore signs with information about S2S and quotes about why people give. It was huge success! Many people were asking questions like "What is S2S?" and the signs had answers. Philanthropy Day came and we had a booth for donations. However, it was all preparatory for the launch of S2S Week. Yes, Student to Student week! It's a wonderful campaign and will definitely be worthwhile. The spirit of comradery and giving is growing!
By the way, I edited this movie with the help of Bryan Spratt :) And the video footage came from Kameron Dearing and Jeri Allphin.
Student Engagement and Philanthropy Day was
on Feb. 27, 2014.To
help create awareness, we went around campus and interviewed people asking them
a series of questions. This is a rough compilation of what we found.
"What
is Philanthropy?"
"What is S2S?"
"Who is a Philanthropy Superhero?"
"How do you feel when you give?"
and
"Will you give when it's time for S2S?"
Turns out, not too many people know what
Philanthropy is, or what S2S is. Luckily, we helped create some awareness.
There's a lot of good going on at UVU and the more people know about it, the
easier it'll be for people to help.
So, what is Philanthropy?
Donations of time, money, or resources for a
social purpose.
What is S2S?
It stands for Student 2 Student. It's
philanthropy for students. Students give money, and then it's given to students
in need in form of a scholarship.
This is put on by UVU's Student Alumni
Association.
We did something more special. We sang a love song in the mall for people. It was a new experience for Heidi, but she did well! And then we handed out Valentines for strangers. I even scared an old man accidentally. After he was done being startled, he looked a little thankful. A lot of people were very thankful for the surprise. Even a couple of young men were super thankful. My favorite, we gave a valentine to an employee at a jewelry store and she was so thrilled! Said we were the cutest things!
I apologize, I went a lot flat for you all... but Heidi rocked it :)
Maybe we should get to back to dancing. Perhaps if we dance with some strangers, point to people, smile, wink, or point at people, it'll allow more people feel the love we spread. It seemed only a couple of people enjoyed the event. We're working on it... somehow we're not getting strangers to dance with us. Do we need a sign with us? "Surprise! Sing and Dance with Us!"
School spirit... let's keep it up!!
Thank you to Jill Broadhead, Liz Edwards, Lisa Ferguson, Tatijanna Loureiro, Jason Robbins, and Elizabeth Clifton! You guys rock and make these adventures possible!
This was an unexpected surprise. I don't know if many of you had seen the original Stormtrooper Twerk, but BYU did a pretty awesome job at recreating it! I'm quite jealous I wasn't able to attend, but it looks great. They had a good sound system set up. Well done, BYU, well done.
Fun fact: Scott DW, the man who coordinated the original, he actually wrote the song and then choreographed the dance. I love the song so much, I made "Beat Calls" my ringtone. Yep, there's even a reference to a wookie.
I just want you all to see the original, then see what it's like for BYU to copied it.
And now the local version below.
One day... I will be apart of something as flashy as this.
Here is my friend Sarah Flinder's birthday party and we actually performed on Ryan Porter's birthday. Double header birthday celebration! I have to say, this could not have happened without the help of the BYU Bowling Alley. They were very kind to help attach the music to the sound system at the alley!
Seriously, we're getting better at this.
Special thanks to Tatijanna Loureiro, Ryan Porter, Princess Taylor, Jerry Black, Jill Broadhead, Tyler Brinkerhoff, Bryan Spratt, Laura Shattuck, Lexi Crane, and Tanner Montierth.
If you haven't seen this movie, it's pretty great! The soundtrack is available on Amazon.com - I bought both the regular version and the instrumental version... sooo good!
